This is the post for 16th day of my biphasic sleep experiment, but I am writing it at 5:00am on the 17th day.

Yesterday I was doing a course in London. I felt alert all morning, but as usual, after lunch I started to feel a bit of tiredness around 1:00pm. When I got back to Yu Lee's mum's house I did try to sleep but I wasn't tired, so after about half an hour I gave up.

I came down stairs and had some dinner, and chatted to Yu Lee's mum for a while, and just after 8:00pm she decided to go out and do something so I thought I'd try taking a late nap.

I am using my vibrating alarm clock here to set my nap alarms, so it is not as simple as with the countdown timer that I normally use. I set the alarm time for 10:10pm and settled down to sleep.

The next thing I knew I had woken up naturally, so I looked over at the clock to see what time it was. 4:30am. Whoops!

It turns out that I had set the time on the alarm very carefully, but I hadn't made sure that I had turned it on! This was actually due to my failed nap earlier in the day, as I had given up before the alarm went off so I disabled it to make sure it wouldn't go off while I was downstairs eating my dinner.

In total I slept for 8.5 hours, which is by far the longest sleep I have had in the past month. You might think that all of that extra sleep would make me feel extra alert, but actually that is not the affect it has had! Maybe during the day I will be more awake, but right now I feel a certain kind of drowsiness that I used to get from sleeping in too long on a weekend.

Tonight's challenge is going to be deciding how to get back into my sleeping pattern. I may have to simply skip my nap today, and then just sleep 4.5 hours tonight. Let's see what happens...
